I take a different view the of issue. Despite the ugliness of Buchanan's tone, he does speak to what has been the unspoken social "elephant in the room"; the fear of the lost of white hegemony. His voice is bigoted and regressive
, but it does speak to a topic that has animated every thing from immigratio
n, to social policy as well as the rabid right's opposition to our current president as represente
d by many in the birther and tea party movement. To make Pat go away may have some symbolic value, but he speaks for many and I'd rather "tolerate" his voice in the name of free speech, rather than give his bigoted followers a martyr.
